Grizedale Forest Zog Trail

Grizedale Forest really does have something for all the family, I can’t believe it has taken me so long to visit!

Nestled between Lake Windermere and Coniston Water the forest it is fairly easy to access and Autumn seems to be a perfect season to experience the vast array of nature and colour in the forest.

We collected the Zog themed activity pack (small extra charge) from the visitor centre before we started the walk. Non of us knew the Zog story but that didn’t matter as the activities within the pack were related to nature, the forest and had some challenges to complete together too.

We set off for the Zog trail with the 3 year old (who sometimes doesn’t want to walk) and dog (who dislikes bikes) to cater for I assumed this would be a hit with them both- fairly short distance and bicycle free route!

As the standard length of the trail is just 0.75 mile it is a fairly short walk but led by a three year old and with added stops for snacks and the activities, we managed to make it last around 2 hours which brought us back to the visitor centre by lunch time.

The trail itself is super accessible, with some small hills but beautiful views through the forest, past a small river and under a zip wire which was exciting for the little one to see!

The whole experience was really enjoyable and with parking just £8 for the day, you could defiantly make a full day of it by visiting the café, hiring a bicycle or just hanging out at the beautifully accessible play park for a while.

I usually avoid “kid” themed walks fearing that they would be busy and ruin the peaceful experience of a walk but I was so wrong! We didn’t see anyone for the majority of our walk and didn’t ever feel bored or like we couldn’t enjoy the route at our own pace which was such a relief for me.

It’s worth mentioning that the weather was beautiful and crisp the October day we visited and, after no rain the previous day, the forest felt truly vibrant. I’m sure the route would be just as much fun in wet or warmer weather though.

If your looking for an easy walk, kids to be entertained and a cafe/playpark all in one place, this one is definitely for you.
